It’s the most wonderful time of the year….Monxie throws a Winter Ball!

What an exciting year this has been! I have so many things to be thankful for… My friends, family, Xander, my promotion!! Yes…. I landed a new position as an editor for Glamour Magazine! This year has been so amazing. Things with Xander are going spectacular, the girls were smitten with him this summer. They thought the way we finished each other’s sentences was hilarious! Last month, Xander and I headed up to Vermont were we met my family for a foliage hike on the Waterbury Trail. My parents enjoyed learning about him and my mom pulled me aside to whisper how much she enjoyed my smile every time I glanced over at Xander. I guess the “Art of Declaration” has been working, 2015 has been breathtaking and I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings. I will be hosting a winter ball to celebrate my new position. I will be moving to be closer to the office… stay tuned for that! Here are some tips for hosting the Ultimate Holiday Party this year:

  1. Keep your menu easy so that both you and your guests have a good time
  2. Thoughtfulness is a key element when entertaining at home (or anywhere)
  3. Engage your guests in an activity…it can be as simple as a question for the night or conversation cards around the room or on the table, to a special tasting of an item, dancing, cooking, playing a game, karaoke ,etc. Guest will remember what a great time they had and will want to come back again.

Late Summer Bash….Monxie’s friends meet Xander!

This summer has been filled with breathtaking memories (Insert dreamy eye face). Of course Xander has planned the most unexpected dates; including hikes, picnics in the park, rock climbing (YES: We are both newbie rock climbing aficionados!) He says that dinner and the movies are over-rated and I could not agree MORE! During our hikes, we have learned more about one another than we could have watching a movie. You would think that a fashion obsessed girl like me would have issues with ditching my Tory Burch wedges and throwing on the hiking boots, but it has been pleasantly delightful. As we were hiking a few weeks ago, I casually invited him to a summer BBQ bash. He has yet to meet any of my friends, well… because we are taking this one day at a time! I have hung out with a few of his close buddies at the bar, and they are a great group of guys. What he doesn’t know about the BBQ bash is that I invited the guys as well! I want him to feel comfortable and have familiar faces to retreat to if the girls turn into interrogators. I’m excited for everyone to meet, considering that it’s been 2 months of story telling and chats with the girls about “Mr. Xanderrrr” as they call him. The girls were excited to learn all about him during our tea the last time we got together. They joke that they need sunglasses when I’m around because the happiness radiates off of me. I can’t help it!! The few times I have been with him and the guys at the bar they say the same thing about him, “Monxie, the guy can’t stop talking about you!” Our mutual fondness of each other is very evident. This weekend’s BBQ will be a great moment for everyone to come together, enjoy some bites and sips, and get to know one another.  I’m looking forward to it! Stay tuned… my expectations of perfection are strictly prohibited, but the guy has me mesmerized.

Spring has sprung!

Love is in the air

The Monx Design House team is excited about our latest creative installment, “Monxie.” Monxie is the “It” event girl and she will be taking us through a journey of love, fashion, events and more via our blog.  We hope you enjoy Monxie and her adventures just as much as we do!  Want to see Monxie in person and see her fashions live?  Stop by our favorite shop for invitations and gifts, Soiree Andover, and you’ll find Monxie in the window.  You’ll be inspired with the event designs, linens, and more.  Soiree Andover, 13 Main Street, Andover, Massachusetts.

Spring has sprung….Monxie has met a guy!

I’ve taken a new resolution to live 2015 by the “Art of Declaration.” I declare that 2015 will be my year! It has a certain ring to it… my YEAR! It has started off better than I had anticipated. Last month, during a Young Writers in the City Networking event, I met a guy. We laughed when we realized we had the same silver Lifeproof cell phone case. As we connected that night, we realized we had a lot more in common than just a cell phone case. He is also a blogger!!! While my blogging topics are focused on fashion and current events, he is a blogger in the techy space and he writes reviews for new products and devices. We exchanged information, and soon enough, he sent me a friend request on Facebook. His big hazel eyes sparkled in his profile picture and his teeth were displayed so perfectly, I had to accept! Here we are a month later, and our Starbucks dates are becoming more frequent. I get butterflies when his name appears on my cell phone… Text Message: Xander . I find myself anticipating our conversations, checking my inbox for an email, browsing through his Instagram and smiling when I see our faces, blushing, side by side. I’m not sure where this is all going, but I will take it one day at a time.

This weekend I have a brunch date with my girlfriends… I think I might tell them about Xander. Especially since I can’t stop thinking about him. I’m excited that us ladies are finally shaking off the snow and connecting for a spring tea date at our favorite spot. Stay tuned… I think he might be… The One!

Holiday Tables….Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and if you happen to be hosting this wonderful event, besides coordinating a delicious meal, you will want an inviting table in which to share your Thanksgiving meal.

Review the linens, plates and flatware that you have and creatively put them together for a unified look even if they all don’t match perfectly.  If you have formal china, use it to present your meal.  Taking pride in the presentation encourages your guests to take pride in the meal.

Holiday Entertaining

The holiday season is around the corner and that means entertaining on many different levels, whether it’s professional colleagues, family, friends, or the local dance team.

As an event designer, I’m often asked about how I personally entertain.  Here are a few tips/thoughts that I keep in mind and share with others when they are entertaining at home or at a venue.  Most times when you are entertaining at home it is for your friends and family.  Even if it is not for friends and family, just the fact that you have invited guests to your personal space is special, so no need to go over the top.  Keep it simple so that both you and your guests have a good time.  Keep it to 3-4 appetizers, 1-2 entrée options and at most 2 to 3 side dishes.  Have a signature drink that is going to make the evening special.  Keep beer and wine options to 1-2 choices.

Thoughtfulness is a key element when entertaining at home (or anywhere).  If you are able to find out details about your guests that will help with your planning, they will be so thrilled that you thought of them. For example, I have a few family members that are gluten intolerant and vegetarian.  So when deciding on appetizers for a recent family event, I did one with figs and blue cheese on delicious gluten free crostini.  It was enjoyed by all and I privately let the vegetarians and gluten intolerant guests know which appetizers would be best suited for them.  They were thrilled that their needs were remembered and they were not singled out with a special dish.

Music is important with any event.  Have it in the back ground or as entertainment for your guests.

Engage your guests in an activity…it can be as simple as a question for the night or conversation cards around the room or just on the table of a special tasting.  Perhaps its dancing, cooking, playing a game, or karaoke ,etc.  Guests will remember what a great time they had and will want to come back again.  What party activity captures your attention?

Recharge Your Event

Posted on July 1st, 2013 in Corporate Planning, Event Planning, Non Profit Planning, Wedding Planning with no comments
Ways-Means-web-6

How many times have you gone to the same event?  We’ve all been to weddings, fundraisers, or corporate events and have gotten that feeling or experience of the same thing over and over again.  If you are planning an event that has been done thousands of times, take a moment to process your event and think about what are the goals?  Who are the guests? How can this event be successful in a new direction?  Recharge your event and give it a new attitude.  Over the years, I have had the pleasure to work with clients on this very process and each time we have enjoyed the challenge and success of recharging events.  The guests have enjoyed the change and the clients have had success with their events.  So with the enhancements you make to your event, you can then ask yourself the question… will change bring success?  The answer should be YES!

Are Invitations Important?

Person-Killian-32

A resounding YES!  So many times I have clients say to me, invitations are not that important to me.  However, they want and expect their guests to treat their event at a very high level.  Invitations are the first piece of communication that introduces your event to your guests.  It sets the tone for the type of event you are going to have and the level of attention you want your guests to give your event.  So if you are going to have a black tie affair and want your guests to understand the formality of the event, then your invitation should have the look and feel of a black tie event.  An invitation of that caliber will excite your guests from the moment they unveil it and the buzz will start.  If you are hosting a high tea or casual garden event, or vintage carnival style event, be sure to have your invitation provide the look and feel of your event.  Your guests will be connected to your event before the event.  Get your guests excited about your event by making your invitations an important part of the event plan.  What feeling does your invitation express to your guests?

Cheers…

Details – Event Accessories

I love fashion!  It can be shared in many ways and take on many different forms.  My background in fashion has been finding its way more and more into my event designs and I just love bringing the two together.  When I work with clients, as we begin to build their event, we consider many things and one of my favorite areas to work on are the details.  Details in events are like accessories in fashion.  Many times it is the accessory that makes an outfit pop.    Details, details, details…they are the accessories that set events apart.  Details come in the way of tangible items such as stationery pieces, flower elements, unique color accents and more.  Details also come in a big way with intangible items such as event designs, process, timing and personal services/experiences for you and your guests.  So if you are looking to have your event stand out from the rest….Let’s talk details!
